What is galvanized barbed wire?

Galvanized barbed wire is a protective fence made by twisting iron wire on wire (stranded wire) with an automatic twisting machine. The raw material is high-quality low-carbon steel wire. It has sharp edges or points and is used to scare and deter intruders and animals. Let's review the common types below.

Common types

According to the galvanizing process, it can be divided into electro-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized. Generally, the zinc layer of hot-dip galvanizing is thicker and more durable, while the price of electro-galvanized is cheaper, which can be selected according to the use environment.

According to the twisting method, it can be divided into single-strand barbed wire and double-strand barbed wire.

Single-strand barbed wire: As the name suggests, it is a single steel wire (wire) twisted by a machine, and the barbs are also four-pointed (two turns for every two sharp wires), tightly wrapped around a wire, a total of four turns.

Double-strand barbed wire: It consists of double-wire wire and multiple barbed wires. There are two types of reverse twisted wire mesh and traditional twisted wire mesh. The former looks similar to single-strand barbed wire, and the barbed wire is wrapped around the double-wire wire. It looks uniform, but it is stronger. The latter is to twist two wires into two-point wires, and then cross the barbed wire with the double-wire wire. See the figure below for details.

PVC coated barbed wire

The plastic coating on the surface makes the barbed wire anti-oxidation and corrosion, thereby reducing the risk of rust. A variety of color options are available, with green being the most common. Compared to galvanized wire mesh, the price of PVC coated wire mesh is slightly higher. You can choose according to your actual budget.
